  • What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis has long been associated with the strange and mysterious, with side shows and faith healers; yet hypnosis isn’t mysterious or supernatural and we have all been in a hypnotic states literally thousands of times. You didn’t notice because it is such a natural state of mind.

Have you ever had a day dream? If so, you were in a trance.

Have you ever looked for something and not been able to see it, but then found it in a place you had already looked? This was a negative hallucination - you were in a trance.

Have you ever imagined what a room or garden would look like once redecorated? This was a positive hallucination - you were in a trance.

Hypnosis is not sleep - it is really a half-way state between awake and asleep and in it the mind is more receptive to suggestion. Hypnosis is a safe state of mind and was recognised as long ago as the 1890s by the British Medical Association.

  • What is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and is a set of techniques that enable us to eliminate old habits and create new behaviours quickly and easily.

Some people describe NLP as being the operating manual of the mind - it enables us to re-programme and re-condition our thinking. When Hypnosis and NLP are combined they are particularly effective.

  • What is a typical session?

With therapies such as these, and with the number of issues that can be helped or alleviated, no two sessions are the same. Every client has different needs and requirements and as such, each session is personalised to suit them.

However, you will always be welcomed warmly. My office is a calm and relaxed place, where you can feel comfortable and free to say and do whatever you need to - it is a genuinely safe place to be.

Your first session will generally provide the basis of your therapy. At this session, we will discuss your desired outcomes and what you hope to gain from the therapy. We will then discuss these outcomes and agree the course of therapy that is best suited to your issue. For example, it may be that utilising TFT, EFT and hypnotherapy is the best therapy for you, rather than just the hypnotherapy.

Most issues are dealt with in two or three sessions. However, during your first appointment, we will discuss this in more detail.

If at any point during your treatment I feel it necessary to alter your agreed treament plan, I will discuss this with you fully. It may be that you are making such good progress, your treatment plan can be reduced. However, no changes will be made without your full consent.

  • What does being hypnotised feel like?

However you experience hypnotherapy is right for you. Many people say that becoming hypnotised feels at first like drifting off into a light sleep, the difference being that they hear our voices as a background to whatever experience they have. They experience being totally aware and yet very comfortable and relaxed. Hypnosis is an individual experience and will not be the same for everyone. The more you practice it the easier it becomes.

  • Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is a natural and effective way of making contact with your inner (unconscious) self with no harmful side effects, only benefits.

The side effect that is most common is a feeling of release and relaxation after the session. It will be fine for you to work or travel after your session of hypnosis.

  • I'm not sure about hypnosis. What if I can't be hypnotised?

This is a common concern, but studies show that everyone can be hypnotised - the only difference is how long it takes. The time taken to enter a trance state has nothing to do with intelligence. It is more to do with how much you allow yourself to go with the experience.

  • I would like to come along with some friends. What do I do?

If you feel more relaxed by coming along with a friend that is ok, they may or may not be allowed into the session depending on the reason for the therapy. If you are booking with a junior (under 16 years) then I may ask you or another adult to sit in the session so you are aware of the techniques they would have learnt.

I would encourage you to come along with some friends or in a group for a stop smoking session or weight loss. That way you will use the group to encourage each other to practice the techniques you will learn.

  • Why does the smoking cessation course take two sessions?

Some hypnotherapists offer this service in one hour. And some of them are successful. However, it is important to me that the client not only stops smoking permanently, but that they don't adopt alternative habits to replace the smoking. By inviting the client to a second session, normally a week later, we can discuss how they are coping with not smoking, alleviating any areas of discomfort if there are any, and rectifying any negative habits they may have started as a result of stopping smoking, such as eating more than usual. I am also able to consolidate all of the new behaviours to allow the client to continue to be a non smoker for the rest of their life.

  • Can you guarantee me a cure?

Nothing in life is guaranteed, and it is not professional to offer one. However, you can be assured that as a professional, I will bring all my skills, knowledge, experience and ongoing training to bear in bringing you lasting relief in your problem.

  • How can I prepare before my appointment?

If time allows, I will send you a questionaire to complete and bring with you to the appointment. If not, you will be able to complete this once you arrive for your appointment.

  • I run a business and want to help my staff. What can I do?

As of 1st July 2007 the law changed regarding smoking, placing a lot of responsibility not only on smokers, but on employers. Maybe you could offer to fund their smoking cessation course? Please check their personal commitment before making the appointment. If you have six or more staff members wishing to stop smoking, a group session can be arranged. Please contact me for costs.

Also, the stresses and pressures of everyday work life are greater than ever before. As a caring employer, you may wish to offer your staff the opportunity to use hypnotherapy to relieve these anxieties. A lot of my work is for corporate clients providing personal "one 2 one" coaching services for their staff.

  • How do I book?

The simplest way to make an appointment is to call me on 01760 336376 or 07842 138992. We can then discuss your requirements and arrange an appointment to suit you. If I am unavailable, or with a client, please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can email me with your contact details and I will contact you.

  • Why should I choose you rather than another hypnotherapist?

There are many hypnotherapists for you to choose from. Some are good - some aren't. It is therefore really important that you only choose someone who has successfully completed an accredited training course. Also, it is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist.

I was trained thoroughly with the East Anglian Institute of NLP and Hypnotherapy and have continued with further training courses ever since. I'm also a member of the National Council of Hypnotherapy, the National Smoking Cessation Institute, the Association of Thought Field Therapists and the Society of NLP. To be a member, I have agreed to adhere to the code of conduct of each of these organisations.

I am passionate about the therapy that I deliver and truly believe in the work that I do.

You may find cheaper therapists, and I know you will find more expensive ones, but I believe the fees I charge are fair, affordable and realistic.
